Born in Sancti Spiritus province (1919), Juan worked in agriculture as a child and later in a State store. In 2009, after retiring, he moved to Havana. In 2010 the sculptor Jose Villa installed the bronze monument to John Lennon at Vedado’s Park, where Juan had the opportunity to be custodian until February 2015. For 15 years, Juan was responsible for the care of the statue’s round glasses, which he placed at Lennon's nose to dozens of tourists photographing it. Because of his age, today he is no longer a custodian but for him, Lennon is part of his life, Lennon is like another family member. And although Juan does not like the Beatles’ music, he still watches over Lennon’s monument.
